United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador David Ashley has expressed his country\u2019s continued interest in supporting South Sudan\u2019s economic reforms.<\/p>\n

According to a press release, Ambassador Ashley on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Johnny Ohisa Damian, where the two officials held talks focused on strengthening financial and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

The meeting, held in Juba, centered on key economic priorities, including liquidity management, monetary policy coordination, and broader financial sector stability in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmbassador Ashley expressed the United Kingdom\u2019s continued interest in supporting South Sudan\u2019s economic reforms, particularly in stabilising the financial system and enhancing institutional capacity within the central bank,” the statement partly read.<\/p>\n

In the statement, Bank Governor Ohisa briefed the ambassador on ongoing efforts by the Bank of South Sudan to address persistent liquidity challenges affecting the country\u2019s banking sector.<\/p>\n

He noted that the BoSS has recently allocated cash to commercial banks to ease cash shortages, facilitate the payment of public sector salaries, and improve access for depositors seeking to withdraw funds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese measures are aimed at restoring confidence in the banking system and ensuring that citizens can access their money without undue difficulty,\u201d the governor explained.<\/p>\n

South Sudan has faced recurring liquidity constraints in recent years, often linked to limited foreign exchange reserves, fiscal pressures, and broader macroeconomic instability.<\/p>\n

The Bank of South Sudan has been implementing a series of policy interventions to stabilise the situation, including tighter monetary controls and coordination with commercial banks.<\/p>\n

The report underscored that Governor Ohisa also highlighted South Sudan\u2019s participation in the recent IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings held in Washington, D.C., describing the engagement as a critical opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and attract financial support.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the meetings, a donor conference dedicated to South Sudan was convened, bringing together international financial institutions and development partners.<\/p>\n

The conference focused on identifying practical ways to support the country\u2019s economic recovery, strengthen fiscal management, and address humanitarian and development needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe discussions with our partners emphasised the importance of coordinated support to help South Sudan navigate its economic challenges and build resilience,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Ashley welcomed these efforts, noting that international cooperation remains essential in addressing the country\u2019s financial constraints and promoting sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n

The visit underscores growing engagement between South Sudan and its international partners as the country seeks to stabilise its economy, improve financial governance, and rebuild investor confidence in the wake of ongoing economic and security challenges.<\/p>\n
