{"id":44407,"date":"2026-05-02T17:46:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T15:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=44407"},"modified":"2026-05-05T17:54:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T15:54:12","slug":"ces-and-western-equatoria-states-seal-rokon-peace-deal-to-end-border-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/02\/ces-and-western-equatoria-states-seal-rokon-peace-deal-to-end-border-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"CES and Western Equatoria states seal Rokon peace deal to end border violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Louis Loku<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The governments of Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria have officially endorsed the Rokon Peace Consensus.<\/p>\n<p>This follows a joint peace agreement aimed at ending years of cattle-related violence and intercommunal conflict along the shared border of the two states.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by the Central Equatoria State (CES) governor\u2019s press unit, a breakthrough report was submitted to Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony by a joint committee.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is co-chaired by Central Equatoria State Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obede and Western Equatoria State Deputy Governor Justin Joseph Marona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report comes after two days of consultations in Rokon, where leaders and communities from Terekeka County in Central Equatoria and Western and Eastern Mundri counties in Western Equatoria met to address long-standing tensions that have repeatedly triggered violence along the common border,\u201d the statement partly read.<\/p>\n<p>According to the committee, the meetings focused on mediation and reconciliation between affected communities, resulting in resolutions aimed at restoring trust and preventing renewed clashes.<\/p>\n<p>The committee underscored that it will continue overseeing the implementation of the Rokon Peace Consensus through the two state advisors for peace and security, who have been tasked with ensuring the resolutions are enforced at the local level.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Adil welcomed the report and praised the committee for what he described as a critical step toward restoring peace and stability between communities with deep historical, cultural, and economic ties.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that peaceful coexistence between the border communities remains essential, noting that lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, dialogue, and mutual understanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the presentation of the report, government officials and community representatives from both Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria signed the resolutions, formally adopting the Rokon Peace Consensus for implementation and wider dissemination among local communities,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The signing marks another step in ongoing efforts by the Central Equatoria State government under Governor Adil\u2019s leadership to strengthen peace, restore order, and improve relations among communities affected by insecurity and local conflict.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate development, the Central Equatoria State Council of Ministers has approved a plan to assess the condition and status of playgrounds and recreational spaces across Juba County and the Juba City Council.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve public facilities in the state.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement released by the governor&#8217;s office, during an ordinary sitting chaired by Emmanuel Adil Anthony, the council endorsed a memorandum presented by Bush Buse, minister of culture, youth, and sports.<\/p>\n<p>The memorandum calls for a mapping exercise to review the status of public playgrounds and recreational centers.<\/p>\n<p>The council directed the Minister to carry out the exercise in coordination with the State Ministry of Housing, Land, and Public Utilities; the Juba County commissioner; and the Mayor of Juba City Council<\/p>\n<p>According to the resolution, the findings of the mapping exercise are expected to be submitted to the council within three weeks for further consideration.<\/p>\n<p>The move will provide the state government with updated information on the availability and condition of public recreational spaces, which are considered vital for youth development, sports activities, and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>In the same sitting, the Council reviewed the general security situation across Central Equatoria State, which was reported to be calm.<\/p>\n<p>The state government stated that it will continue advancing peace initiatives aimed at strengthening peaceful coexistence among communities, following the momentum of the two-day Rokon Peace Consensus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Louis Loku The governments of Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria have officially endorsed the Rokon Peace Consensus.
