The Central Equatoria State (CES) Government has revealed that the Rokon Peace Consensus resolved to return cattle to their areas of origin to foster sustainable peace in the state.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday during the consensus meeting in Juba, CES Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obede stated that the resolution requires cattle keepers to return their livestock to their home areas.<\/p>\n

“The Government of CES has noted your resolution on the Rokon Peace Consensus, which includes the return of cattle to their origin,” Lukudu said.<\/p>\n

The Rokon Peace Consensus meeting took place from April 28 to 29, 2026, in Rokon Payam, Juba County. Representatives from the sisterly states of Central and Western Equatoria (WES) attended, including Terekeka County, Juba County, and Mundri East and West counties.<\/p>\n

The communities gathered to discuss issues related to insecurity, livestock raiding, revenge killings, rapes, and displacement.<\/p>\n

They shared their grievances to promote peace, resolve disputes, and strengthen long-standing relationships across the states.<\/p>\n

Lukudu assured the Mundari communities that the CES government will hold dialogues with the WES government to ensure a cessation of hostilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI assure you, the Mundari communities, that the WES government will engage with its people to stop the attacks on your cattle,” he assured.<\/p>\n

He added that the CES government will construct water ponds for the cattle in their home areas, eliminating the need for herders to search for water elsewhere.<\/p>\n

The consensus produced several key resolutions, including communities must cease all forms of violence and retaliation immediately and embrace peaceful coexistence and neighbourliness. All raided and stolen livestock must be returned to their rightful owners.<\/p>\n

The government is urged to oversee the relocation of cattle to their places of origin; the government must ensure justice and accountability for all crimes committed, and community leaders will collaborate with law enforcement to identify, apprehend, and disarm criminals to deter future offenses.<\/p>\n

To ensure the resolutions are carried out, the governments of Central and Western Equatoria states will establish an implementation committee with clear terms of reference endorsed by both administrations.<\/p>\n

Angelo Daya Lodu, the CES security advisor, urged Mundari youth to return their cattle home, noting that CES is a major destination for South Sudanese cattle keepers, which often leads to conflict between herders and local farmers.<\/p>\n

However, he highlighted a significant hurdle in the implementation process:<\/p>\n

“Most cattle keepers are currently on the rebels’ side, which makes it hard to find them and return them to their origin,” Daya explained.<\/p>\n

Echoing these sentiments, Daniel Abocha Ali, a Member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), called on local leaders to act quickly.<\/p>\n

“I urge all of you, chiefs and youth of the Mundari community, to immediately implement the return of your cattle to their origin,” Ali said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
