A tragic road accident in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State, has claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy after he was struck by a vehicle belonging to the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB).<\/p>\n

According to the Director of Traffic in Yambio, Arkangelo Ginana, the incident occurred along the main road in the Pazuo residential area.<\/p>\n

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n

“The driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, which is a serious violation of traffic laws. We strongly urge all drivers to refrain from driving after consuming alcohol. This kind of negligence has now cost an innocent life,” Ginana stated.<\/p>\n

Ginana confirmed that both the driver and the vehicle have been taken into police custody, and legal proceedings will follow as investigations continue.<\/p>\n

“We have detained the driver, and the car is also in our custody as evidence. The law will take its course,” Ginana added.<\/p>\n

He extended condolences to the bereaved family and called for calm as justice is pursued.<\/p>\n

“We ask the family of the deceased to remain patient as the legal process unfolds. We understand their pain, and we are committed to ensuring accountability.”<\/p>\n

The incident has sparked shock and anger among residents, who are now calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and stronger action against drunk driving.<\/p>\n

“This is very painful. Losing such a young child in this manner is heartbreaking,” said Bakayogo Emmanuel, a resident.<\/p>\n

“Drivers must be responsible. Drinking and driving should not be tolerated at all,” he cautioned.<\/p>\n

Another community member, Josphine Hadia, emphasised the need for greater awareness and discipline among motorists.<\/p>\n

“We keep seeing accidents like this because people ignore the rules. Authorities must enforce strict penalties to stop this behavior,” Hadia noted.<\/p>\n

Local leaders and community members are urging increased road safety campaigns in Yambio, particularly focusing on the dangers of drunk driving, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.<\/p>\n
