Now that trucks have started entering the country again, traders should reduce prices to help the people,” he said.

Another resident, Sarah Ayaa, urged business owners to act responsibly and consider the economic difficulties facing the community.

“The situation was difficult because goods from Uganda could not reach Nimule. We are now appealing to business people to lower prices because the supply of goods has resumed,” she said.

James Wani, a motorcycle rider in the town council, said there was no justification for maintaining high prices after transport activities normalised.

“Drivers have already stopped the protest, and many vehicles are coming into South Sudan again. Traders should stop overcharging residents because business is returning to normal,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Grace Lodongo, a mother and small-scale trader, called on local authorities to monitor market prices and protect consumers from exploitation.

“People have struggled during this period, especially low-income families. We want business people to cooperate and reduce prices so that life can improve again,” she said.

Truck drivers recently called off their protest after two weeks, reopening the movement of goods from Uganda and neighboring countries into South Sudan through the Nimule border crossing.

Residents now hope the return of supplies will help stabilise market prices in Nimule Town Council and other parts of the country.

By Jurugo Emmanuel Ogasto Residents of the Nimule Town Council are calling on traders to reduce the prices of food and other essential commodities following the end of a two-week protest by truck drivers.
