A misunderstanding over yellow fever vaccination verification delayed a South Sudanese delegation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for nearly three hours after arriving from Juba for an official training in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred at the airport\u2019s health screening desk during routine checks of yellow fever vaccination cards, according to members of the delegation.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said an airport official asked a South Sudanese woman to present her yellow fever certificate, but she reportedly walked past the desk without responding. The officer later called her back and allegedly took her passport into an office, prompting a confrontation.<\/p>\n

The woman reportedly followed the officer, demanding the return of her passport, leading to a heated exchange that attracted the attention of other passengers and airport staff.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn arrival, the situation escalated over a routine verification process,\u201d said James Lual Akech, a member of the delegation.<\/p>\n

Delegation members, including the team leader, attempted to intervene and calm the situation, but discussions reportedly continued for hours before airport security officers stepped in.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt several points, efforts to resolve the matter amicably were unsuccessful, and the delay became prolonged,\u201d Akech said.<\/p>\n

During the intervention, one security officer allegedly asked whether the woman was Nuer or Dinka, a remark that delegation members described as unnecessary and unrelated to the matter at hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe felt ethnicity had no role in the matter; all of us were simply South Sudanese dealing with a procedural misunderstanding,\u201d Akech added.<\/p>\n

The standoff reportedly ended after members of the delegation apologised on behalf of the woman in order to proceed with their journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe opted to apologise only to end the delay and continue our trip,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The incident has raised concerns among travellers over professionalism at regional entry points and the handling of administrative disputes involving foreign visitors.<\/p>\n
