Authorities in Bor County have suspended wrestling, dance, games, and other social-related activities in the county over the weekend so as to allow the youth to engage in agricultural activities this season.<\/p>\n

Hon. Samuel Ateny Pech, the commissioner of Bor, in his statement, emphasised that it\u2019s a farming season, citing the importance of extensive farming this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis order calls for the suspension of the social gathering, and it can be effective from this date. Whoever is caught in the socially prohibited activities will be taken to any government farm for farming,” Ateny said.<\/p>\n

Hon. Ateny stated that agriculture is the most essential activity that can eradicate hunger in the country, and there is a need to farm.<\/p>\n

He added that the county government would work tirelessly to safeguard the farming activities by providing necessary protection to the farmers in the county.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the social gatherings, such as wrestling, dancing, and games, such as dominoes and playing cards and other social-related activities, are suspended until farming season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hon. Pech stated that the government would take drastic measures against people who wouldn\u2019t heed the order and continue with the social activities in the county.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile. Madol Kuol Madol, a youth in Bor, appreciated the suspension of social gatherings such as wrestling and dances, citing that wrestling and the dances distract the youth from farming.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em><\/strong>As a youth, I appreciate the order made by the commissioner because we know that things are hard nowadays in the country, and when agriculture is prioritised, it will be a good thing. It will encourage many people to cultivate, and enough food will be produced,” Madol said.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged the suspension of social gatherings would help encourage farming across the county in order to boost local agricultural production.<\/p>\n

Mr. Madol stated that imported commodities have skyrocketed in the country due to insufficient local products, but when local farming is encouraged, it can help reduce market prices.<\/p>\n

Bor County is among the counties in South Sudan that participate greatly in the wrestling activities\u2014it’s an activity that the majority of youth admire attending. It promotes social interaction and peaceful cohesion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
