{"id":44753,"date":"2026-05-19T16:33:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T14:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=44753"},"modified":"2026-05-19T16:33:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T14:33:00","slug":"aweil-youth-union-distances-itself-from-counties-football-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/19\/aweil-youth-union-distances-itself-from-counties-football-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Aweil Youth Union distances itself from counties football tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Hou Akot Hou<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The leadership of the Aweil Youth Union (AYU) in Juba has officially announced its withdrawal from the upcoming Aweil Counties Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The group claimed that it is not involved in the organisation, coordination, or implementation of the sporting event being planned by businessman Mr. Wol Dut Anguei under the banner of the \u201cAweil Counties Tournament in Juba.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes as preparations for the tournament were already underway, including the release of fixtures in Juba by the organising committee representing the five counties of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement seen by this outlet, the youth union clarified its position, distancing itself from the process entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe leadership of Aweil Youth Union in Juba wishes to officially inform the general public, youth, community leaders, and all stakeholders that AYU is not part of the organisation, management, coordination, or implementation of the upcoming Aweil Counties Tournament currently being organised by another body,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The union said the clarification was necessary to avoid confusion and misinformation regarding its role in the event, stressing that it does not recognise the leadership spearheading the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>It further raised concerns about the planning process, arguing that the preparations were rushed and lacked proper coordination among key stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>According to AYU, such gaps in consultation could lead to misunderstandings, division among young people, and potential security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrganising communal activities without proper arrangements may create misunderstanding, confusion, and disunity among young people and possible security challenges that may eventually become a burden to the state leadership,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the union\u2019s rejection, the tournament organisers have dismissed calls for cancellation and insist the competition will proceed as planned at Juba Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Sunday, tournament president Mr. Wol Dut Anguei reaffirmed his commitment to go ahead with the event, which brings together teams from all five counties of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed appreciation to Hon. Thiik Thiik Mayardit for his support in securing Juba Stadium for the opening match.<\/p>\n<p>Wol outlined the prize structure for the competition, stating that the winners will receive SSP 15,000,000, the runners-up SSP 10,000,000, and the third-place team SSP 5,000,000. He added that the prize amounts could increase if additional funding becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>As tensions grow between the Aweil Youth Union and the tournament organisers, debates have intensified over past financial management and the credibility of the current arrangements.
