{"id":44851,"date":"2026-05-22T11:17:05","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T09:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=44851"},"modified":"2026-05-22T11:17:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T09:17:05","slug":"kanjoro-bridge-launch-in-yei-to-boost-community-connectivity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/22\/kanjoro-bridge-launch-in-yei-to-boost-community-connectivity\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanjoro bridge launch in Yei to boost community connectivity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By James Innocent<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Authorities in Yei River County on Thursday officially launched the construction of the Kanjoro Bridge along the Lomuku 1 Newsite road, a community-driven initiative aimed at improving transportation and connectivity within the area.<\/p>\n<p>The launch ceremony, which had earlier been announced by the Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, brought together religious leaders, government officials, police representatives, civil society groups, traditional chiefs, and community members from across the county.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the event, Commissioner Malimbo praised the cooperation shown by local communities and religious leaders, describing the initiative as a strong demonstration of unity and partnership among stakeholders in the county.<\/p>\n<p>He pledged support from the county government through the provision of materials needed to begin construction work and urged the bridge committee to ensure transparency and accountability in managing community contributions.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner also encouraged communities and institutions to involve elders in development initiatives to provide guidance and blessings.<\/p>\n<p>He further thanked the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yei and other church leaders for praying for and blessing the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yei, Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, welcomed the initiative, saying it reflected the important role communities play in advancing development.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that community-led initiatives help address urgent needs more quickly, adding that relying entirely on government support can delay progress.<\/p>\n<p>The bishop also commended Commissioner Malimbo for working closely with local leaders and residents in support of the bridge construction.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Elias Taban Parangi of the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan called on residents of Yei River County to promote unity among different communities and tribes to foster development and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked the county commissioner for supporting the people and demonstrating solidarity with the community through the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson Poru Hillary, chairperson of the bridge construction committee, said the road and bridge project would improve movement between Yei River County and Lainya County, particularly for residents traveling from Mukaya.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the bridge would help school children access markets and schools more easily while also supporting local trade and business activities.<\/p>\n<p>The Paramount Chief of Yei River County, Joseph Brown, appealed to stakeholders and well-wishers to support the bridge project with the necessary resources to ensure its successful completion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By James Innocent Authorities in Yei River County on Thursday officially launched the construction of the Kanjoro Bridge along the Lomuku 1 Newsite road, a community-driven initiative aimed at improving transportation and connectivity within the area.
