At least 20 people have been killed and several others injured following two separate armed attacks in Tonj North and Tonj South counties of Warrap State this week.<\/p>\n

The first incident occurred on Tuesday, 19 May, when suspected armed criminals from Kirik attacked Mareng-Noi village in Tonj North County.<\/p>\n

According to the state minister of information, William Wol Mayam, the attackers killed several people, wounded five others, and raided about 132 head of cattle from the area.<\/p>\n

Security forces attempted to pursue the attackers and recover the stolen livestock, but the effort was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n

A second attack took place early Wednesday morning, 20 May, at around 5:30 AM in the Ameth-Cok area of Tonj South County.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the attackers, reportedly from the Muok community, targeted residents from Manyangok Payam.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assault left nine people dead, including three men in uniform, while nine others were wounded. Among the injured were a woman and a six-year-old girl,\u201d Wol Mayam stated<\/p>\n

One of the attackers was also killed during the confrontation, bringing the total death toll in the Tonj South incident to 10. Among the dead was a police investigator attached to the crime section in Tonj Town, holding the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe attackers also reportedly raided 118 head of cattle, while additional numbers of stolen livestock remain unconfirmed,” Wol Mayam confirmed.<\/p>\n

In response to the escalating violence, the Warrap State Government imposed a seven-day curfew running from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

Governor Bol Wek Agoth condemned the attacks, describing them as senseless violence against civilians, and extended condolences to the affected families.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe sincerely conveys his condolences to the people of the two counties whose loved ones were killed,” Wol Mayam said.<\/p>\n

Security forces have been deployed to the affected areas as investigations continue and authorities work to restore calm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
