Anyone found selling or buying them will be held accountable,” Nyuol said.

The commissioner stated that three categories of people would face legal action if caught trading the nets: the seller, the buyer, and any intermediary who facilitates the transaction.

“Those who shall be found selling the mosquito nets will be held responsible. The seller, the buyer, and any agent who coordinates the transaction will all be liable,” he warned.

Nyuol added that security personnel have been directed to enforce the order and investigate reports that some individuals may have diverted mosquito nets intended for vulnerable households.

He urged residents, especially families facing economic hardship, not to sell the nets for short-term financial gain.

“To young mothers who may be considering selling the nets because of food insecurity, remember that children and elderly people are the ones who will be left unprotected from malaria. We want to prevent that from happening,” he said.

The commissioner emphasised that the current mass distribution campaign is intended to provide long-term protection, noting that another large-scale distribution of mosquito nets is not expected for approximately three years.

Last week’s distribution campaign formed part of ongoing efforts by health authorities and humanitarian organisations to reduce malaria infections across the region.

Meanwhile, residents of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State are awaiting their share of the mosquito nets once the initial distribution phases in Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states are completed.

Health officials continue to encourage households to properly use and maintain the mosquito nets to protect vulnerable family members from malaria.

By Hou Akot Hou The Commissioner of Twic County in Warrap state has warned residents against selling or buying mosquito nets recently distributed by humanitarian partners.
