{"id":45285,"date":"2026-06-11T16:37:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T14:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=45285"},"modified":"2026-06-11T16:37:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T14:37:15","slug":"yei-authorities-set-for-ebola-preparedness-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/11\/yei-authorities-set-for-ebola-preparedness-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Yei authorities set for Ebola preparedness initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By James Innocent<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u200eThe Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, has called for stronger coordination among health partners and government institutions as efforts to enhance Ebola preparedness continue across the county.<\/p>\n<p>\u200eSpeaking during a meeting with a UNICEF delegation, Malimbo commended the organisation for supporting local authorities in raising awareness about Ebola prevention and preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner noted that Yei River County&#8217;s proximity to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo places the area at increased risk, making preparedness measures essential.<\/p>\n<p>\u200e&#8221;Ebola is not only a public health concern but also a national security issue because of its potential impact on communities, economic activities, and public services,&#8221; Malimbo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u200eHe directed health authorities to strengthen surveillance and establish screening points at strategic entry routes to ensure travellers comply with preventive measures and to reduce the risk of cross-border transmission.<\/p>\n<p>\u200eMalimbo also urged development partners and humanitarian organisations to coordinate closely with county and state authorities to improve information sharing and effective response mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner further emphasised the importance of transparency and cooperation among partners operating in the county, saying coordinated efforts are necessary to safeguard the well-being of the people of Yei River County.<\/p>\n<p>\u200eWhile UNICEF representative Florence Logu said the organisation is supporting the county through social and behavioral change initiatives aimed at increasing public awareness of Ebola preparedness and prevention.<\/p>\n<p>\u200eShe explained that UNICEF will work through community networks and social mobilisation structures to disseminate information on Ebola prevention.
