The Aweil East County education authority has expressed concern over delays in the delivery of school meals by the World Food Programme (WFP) and its implementing partner, ForAfrika, saying the situation is negatively affecting school attendance and disrupting learning activities across the county.<\/p>\n

According to the authority, schools benefiting from the school feeding program have gone for more than a week without food supplies, a situation that has created confusion among learners and weakened school participation.<\/p>\n

It noted that many pupils now mistakenly believe schools have not fully reopened due to the absence of meals, while others who attend classes often leave after break and fail to return for afternoon lessons.<\/p>\n

Aweil East County Education Director Ahou Garang Ciir said in a statement: \u201cThe meal was supposed to be delivered on May 29th, 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further explained that the absence of school feeding has reduced learners\u2019 motivation and affected concentration in class.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis situation has greatly affected attendance. Children come to school, but without meals, many lose motivation and leave early,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The education authority stressed that school feeding programs play a critical role in improving attendance, increasing enrollment, and enhancing concentration and performance among pupils, particularly in rural and vulnerable communities where many children rely on school meals as a key source of daily nutrition.<\/p>\n

It added that such programs also serve as an incentive for parents to send and keep children in school, helping reduce dropout rates and support long-term educational outcomes.<\/p>\n

The Aweil East County education authority has called on WFP and ForAfrika to urgently resume the supply of school meals to avoid further disruption of learning and safeguard progress in the education sector.<\/p>\n
