{"id":45379,"date":"2026-06-16T13:19:04","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T11:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=45379"},"modified":"2026-06-16T13:19:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T11:19:04","slug":"elections-national-election-commission-secures-6-million-to-fund-2026-electoral-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/16\/elections-national-election-commission-secures-6-million-to-fund-2026-electoral-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"ELECTIONS: National Election Commission secures $6 million to fund 2026 electoral activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Lodu William Odiya<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced two major developments aimed at strengthening preparations for upcoming elections, including securing US$6 million for civic and voter education and acquiring a permanent headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>During a press briefing at the Commission\u2019s headquarters, NEC Chairperson Abednego Akok said the funding will immediately support a nationwide voter education campaign across all ten states and the three administrative areas of South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>He described the financial support as a significant step forward in improving public awareness and participation in the electoral process, noting that civic education remains a critical component ahead of the polls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey gave us six million dollars for civic and voter education\u2026 These functions are very important,\u201d Akok said.<\/p>\n<p>In a second key announcement, the Commission confirmed it has fully completed the purchase of the AIDA Hotel, which will now serve as its permanent headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Akok described the acquisition as a historic milestone, saying the building will provide the institution with long-term stability in managing electoral processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a big achievement for us\u2026 There is now a building for the Election Commission forever. It will exist for generations to come,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The NEC said the launch of civic and voter education will begin immediately across the country, with a focus on informing citizens about voting procedures, participation, and electoral responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>While welcoming the developments, the Commission cautioned that the remaining election preparations are highly time-sensitive.
