Health authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have urged people living with a cleft lip to register for free corrective surgery that will be conducted next week at St. Mary Help Hospital in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.<\/p>\n

Luka Lual Aleu Jok, the Health Education Focal Point at Aweil State Hospital, said the operations will be offered at no cost, giving patients another opportunity to receive life-changing treatment.<\/p>\n

He said at least 12 patients who missed last year’s surgical program are encouraged to register and prepare for transportation to Wau.<\/p>\n

“We have a total of 12 people who missed the opportunity last year. Now is the time for them to come forward and register because the surgery will be carried out in Wau free of charge,” Lual said.<\/p>\n

He explained that families are only required to transport patients to Aweil Town, where free transportation to Wau will be arranged for the medical operation.<\/p>\n

Lual also appealed to residents of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to donate blood, warning that the hospital’s blood bank is facing a critical shortage.<\/p>\n

“We are appealing to members of the public to donate blood because many of our patients are in urgent need. This is an opportunity to save lives. Some people die from treatable conditions simply because they do not receive blood in time,” he said.<\/p>\n

He dismissed widespread misconceptions that donating blood weakens the donor’s immune system, describing such beliefs as false and harmful.<\/p>\n

“These myths discourage people from donating blood, leaving our blood bank empty and increasing the risk of preventable deaths due to a lack of blood for transfusions,” he added.<\/p>\n

According to Lual, the hospital frequently treats patients suffering from severe malaria, anaemia, and pregnant women who require blood transfusions during emergencies. He urged healthy residents to volunteer as blood donors to help save lives across the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
