A businessman in Nyalath Payam, Apada Market, Aweil Center County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has reported losing more than SSP 1.5 million and three smartphones in an armed robbery attack earlier this week.<\/p>\n

In an interview with No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Thursday, businessman Kuol Malou said the incident occurred on Sunday at around 2:00 p.m. while most people in the market were resting.<\/p>\n

According to Malou, armed men stormed his shop, woke him up, and threatened him with pistols before taking cash and mobile phones.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened on Sunday around 2:00 p.m. is that armed robbers attacked me in my shop, pointed pistols at my head, and took away three smartphones and SSP 1.5 million,\u201d Malou said.<\/p>\n

He said the latest incident was not the first attack against him. According to Malou, the same or similar criminals robbed him of about SSP 800,000 several months ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is another round of looting that has occurred at my business. I am now left incapacitated and have nothing at hand to continue operating my business,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Malou appealed to well-wishers and philanthropists in the state to assist him in rebuilding his business.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing I can do now to revive my small-scale business. It was through farming that I started this work, and now these armed robbers are targeting me in the outskirts of Aweil Town, in Nyalath. My business is deteriorating,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The incident has raised concerns among residents and traders, who say security patrols in the area need to be strengthened.<\/p>\n

Some traders have called on local authorities and police to increase patrols in market areas to deter criminal activities.<\/p>\n

One youth, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals, criticised the response of law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a total neglect by our law enforcement agencies. The officers are weak here and are not doing their work properly, partly because they are not adequately paid,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State authorities have in recent years conducted crackdowns on criminal gangs operating in several parts of Aweil Town, including Maper-Akot-Aru, Apada, Malou-Awer, and the Naivasha neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

Although such operations have previously reduced theft and robbery cases, the latest incident has renewed concerns among residents about a possible resurgence of criminal activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
