We value this relationship and look forward to strengthening it through constructive, respectful, and diplomatic engagement while upholding the sovereignty of our nation,\u201d the statement reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson Thoan noted that collaboration with international partners remains critical in enhancing healthcare delivery, strengthening disease surveillance systems, and improving access to essential health services for communities across South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Ramanathan Balakrishnan, the United Nations Deputy Special Representative, reaffirmed the United Nations\u2019 commitment to supporting South Sudan\u2019s health sector and humanitarian efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United Nations remains committed to supporting the government and people of South Sudan in strengthening the health sector, enhancing disease preparedness, and improving the well-being of citizens across the country,\u201d the statement partly reads.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Health\u2019s undersecretary, advisors, and directors, while the UN delegation included representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).<\/p>\n<p>Both officials reiterated their shared commitment to building a resilient health system capable of responding to public health emergencies and improving healthcare outcomes nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan\u2019s health sector continues to face significant challenges, including inadequate healthcare infrastructure, shortages of skilled medical personnel, and recurrent disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>The country relies heavily on support from international partners, particularly the United Nations and humanitarian organisations, to strengthen healthcare services and emergency response mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Sector Transformation Project is among the key initiatives aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services, strengthening health systems, and increasing resilience against public health threats.<\/p>\n<p>Recent concerns over Ebola outbreaks in neighboring countries had also prompted the government and its partners to intensify preparedness and surveillance measures to prevent cross-border transmission.<\/p>\n<p>The National Public Health Institute plays a vital role in disease surveillance, outbreak response, research, and public health coordination, making it a key institution in South Sudan\u2019s efforts to safeguard the health of its population.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting underscored the enduring partnership between the Government of South Sudan and the United Nations in advancing healthcare, disease prevention, and humanitarian support for the people of South Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sabri Dibaco The National Minister of Health, Luke Thompson Thoan, has reaffirmed South Sudan\u2019s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Nations in improving healthcare services and disease preparedness across the country.
