South Sudan is a democratic country, and it has never prepared itself for a democratic election. It is good to wait for the right time before starting the preparatory procedures leading to the election.

The first democratic election of South Sudan was supposed to be held in 2016 according to the constitutional calendar of South Sudan, but it was interrupted by the civil war, which broke out in 2013, and that was why it was postponed to an unknown date in the year.

As is known, the main function of the government of the nation in the war zone is to implement peace and unity among the people in a fragile state before the general election. This is because a successful election without disruption is held in the country when there is peace and unity among the people in a democratic nation.

But when the country is at war, then it will make it difficult for the government to launch the operational activities leading to the general election, despite the time scheduled for the national election to take place in the democratic nation.

There are ten states in South Sudan, and all these states have been affected by the continuous civil war for thirteen years after the country won its final freedom from Sudan and became an independent nation in Africa.

The cause of the democratic movement between the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in opposition is not known to the citizens of South Sudan, whether it is democratic or tribal, and such a democratic war needs to be handled with great care. The government should frame the correct formula that could be applied by the country to bring total political stability before the launching of the general election, rather than imposing the election without proper preparations that have been made among the people in the states in political crisis.

On top of that, peace and harmony are not only achieved in the country through the national election, but there are many ways of bringing peace and unity to the country, such as delivery of services to the community and compromise national dialogue among the parties in conflict, and if the government settles the two outstanding issues, therefore, peace and unity are going to be achieved among the people living in the country of South Sudan.

As the truth to tell for the sake of the nation, I am writing to inform the government of South Sudan that no election is to be held when the country is at war, and the national election, which is going to be held in 2026, is going to cause another civil war and national destruction if it is not going to be handled properly and if it is not going to be conducted fairly by the government of the country.

South Sudan is a democratic nation, and it should meet with the normal constitutional procedures of conducting the national election. Any failure for the country to follow the constitutional ways of carrying out the general election will show that South Sudan is not democratically oriented, and it will be answerable for any political crisis that is going to happen in the future.

Disclaimer: Any opinion published on our platforms does not represent the view and position of the company or its publisher.

Writer: Ayuel Mangok Angui Democracy is the specific tool applied in solving political conflict, which is caused by the politicians living in a democratic country.
