The governor of Western Equatoria State says the government is shifting its focus from restoring peace to rebuilding livelihoods.<\/p>\n

This initiative will be achieved through humanitarian assistance, youth empowerment, job creation, and economic recovery following months of improved security across the state.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media upon his arrival at Yambio Airport, Governor Daniel Badagbu said more than 5,300 people affected by conflict have already received humanitarian assistance through government coordination with aid organisations and international partners.<\/p>\n

He said over 2,300 people from affected communities had received relief supplies, while more than 3,000 others in Greater Mvolo, Source Yubu East, Ezo, Tambura, and surrounding areas had also benefited from humanitarian support.<\/p>\n

“I have been engaging different organisations because, as peace returns, we must find ways to support our people. Relief is important, but we must also empower young people, support women, and encourage those who fled into the bush to return home,” Governor Daniel Badagbu said.<\/p>\n

The governor added that assistance from Chinese partners had enabled relief items to be delivered to Nagero County, where more than 300 households are expected to benefit.<\/p>\n

Badagbu said the government is now looking beyond emergency relief by expanding resilience and recovery programs while engaging investors to create employment opportunities for local communities.<\/p>\n

“We are working with potential investors who can come and create jobs for our people. Recovery is not only about food assistance but also about giving people opportunities to rebuild their lives,” he said.<\/p>\n

Governor Badagbu also appealed for patience regarding delayed salary payments, saying President Salva Kiir Mayardit had already directed that funds be released to the states.<\/p>\n

Although he did not provide a specific timeline, the governor said state officials had been following up with the Ministry of Finance and that the process was in its final stages.<\/p>\n

“I do not want to raise expectations by giving dates, but I can assure our people that we have been following this closely. The process is at its final stages, and we hope everyone will have reason to smile very soon,” he said.<\/p>\n

The governor also explained that his frequent trips outside the state were aimed at securing resources and development opportunities rather than neglecting his responsibilities.<\/p>\n

“When peace starts taking root, a leader must also go out and look for opportunities that are not yet available so that the people can benefit,” Badagbu added.<\/p>\n

Western Equatoria State has been recovering from years of localised conflict and displacement that disrupted livelihoods and forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.<\/p>\n

In recent months, the state government has intensified peace initiatives, including community reconciliation, engagement with armed groups, and coordination with humanitarian agencies to facilitate the return of displaced families.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the next phase of recovery will prioritise humanitarian assistance, livelihood restoration, infrastructure development, investment promotion, and the timely payment of public servants’ salaries to consolidate the gains made through the ongoing peace process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
