{"id":45740,"date":"2026-06-29T15:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T13:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=45740"},"modified":"2026-06-29T16:03:05","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T14:03:05","slug":"wes-government-to-integrate-splm-io-forces-and-recruit-1200-police-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/29\/wes-government-to-integrate-splm-io-forces-and-recruit-1200-police-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"WES government to integrate SPLM-IO forces, and recruit 1,200 police officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>By Lodu William Odiya<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, has announced plans to integrate former SPLM-IO forces who defected in 2025 into the national organised forces, describing the move as a major step toward strengthening peace and implementing security arrangements in the state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to a statement from his press unit, Rimbasa said the integration exercise would commence as soon as possible, emphasising that former combatants who left the bush or joined the organised forces without undergoing formal integration must now be incorporated into the national security structures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We are going to begin the integration of the forces here as soon as possible because we cannot continue to keep people who came from the bush or those who joined without integration,&#8221; Governor Rimbasa said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He noted that the exercise forms part of the implementation of the country&#8217;s security arrangements and is expected to contribute to lasting peace by ensuring that all eligible personnel are officially absorbed into the national forces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Governor Rimbasa also highlighted a critical shortage of police officers in Western Equatoria, saying the lack of personnel has affected the state&#8217;s ability to maintain law and order and provide adequate security services across its counties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To address the challenge, he announced that the national government has approved the recruitment of approximately 1,200 new police officers who will be deployed across the state to strengthen policing and improve public safety.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We have now succeeded in obtaining approval to recruit about 1,200 new police officers who will provide peace and security in the different counties of Western Equatoria State,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The additional officers are expected to reinforce law enforcement capacity in areas affected by insecurity and enhance the protection of civilians as the state continues efforts to restore normalcy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Governor Rimbasa reaffirmed his administration&#8217;s commitment to working closely with the national government to implement the peace agreement, strengthen state security institutions, and foster an environment conducive to development and economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said sustainable peace remains a top priority for his administration, adding that improved security is essential for enabling communities to resume farming, businesses to thrive, and public services to expand across Western Equatoria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Western Equatoria State has experienced intermittent insecurity in recent years, including armed confrontations involving holdout groups and local militias, which have disrupted livelihoods and displaced communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The implementation of security arrangements under the peace agreement, including the integration of former opposition forces into unified national forces, has been viewed as a key pillar for stabilising the region and supporting the country&#8217;s broader peace and state-building efforts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The recruitment of additional police officers is expected to strengthen civilian policing and enhance security across the state&#8217;s counties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lodu William Odiya The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, has announced plans to integrate former SPLM-IO forces who defected in 2025 into the national organised forces, describing the move as a major step toward strengthening peace and implementing security arrangements in the state.
