Akec Tong Aleu, Adut Salva Kiir, and others mentioned, while also undermining the credibility of the ISB and the NSS.

“As a matter of obligation and clarity, it is worth noting that the NSS condemns in the strongest terms possible the post, as it is false, unsubstantial, propagandist, and a conspiracy theory campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of Gen. Akech Tong Aleu, Adut Salva Kiir, and those mentioned, as well as discrediting the image of the ISB and the NSS as a whole,” he said.

According to him, an online publication claimed that Gen. Akec Tong Aleu, Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir, and other individuals had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning mineral extraction in Tonj South County.

Kumuri emphasised that NSS personnel carry out their responsibilities strictly under the provisions of the NSS Act, 2014 (as amended in 2024), and noted that mining activities do not fall within the mandate of the National Security Service.

He added that any assignment undertaken by the director general outside his official responsibilities can only be authorised by the president of the Republic through a Republican order.

The spokesperson further warned against the spread of what it described as false and conspiratorial content on social media, stating that such actions could attract legal consequences under the recently enacted Cyber and Computer Misuse Act.

According to him, the Service has engaged technical experts to conduct digital forensic investigations aimed at identifying those responsible for the publication and similar online content.

The NSS also categorically denied claims that the director general of the ISB had met with community leaders or chiefs in Tonj South County to discuss mining activities or sign any memorandum of understanding.

Kumuri concluded by urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation or engaging in campaigns that damage the reputations of individuals and institutions.

He encouraged constructive dialogue that promotes knowledge, understanding, and national cohesion.

By Yiep Joseph The National Security Service (NSS) has rejected allegations linking the Director General of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB), Akec Tong Aleu, to alleged mining activities in Tonj South County.
