Western Equatoria State Governor Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa has directed county commissioners across the state to prioritise security, promote dialogue, and support preparations for South Sudan’s upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n

The directive was issued during a strategic meeting with commissioners from the state’s 10 counties, where Governor Rimbasa instructed local authorities to return to their respective areas and work closely with communities, security agencies, traditional leaders, youth representatives, and civil society organisations to preserve peace and stability.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that security remains the government’s top priority and called on commissioners from Yambio, Nzara, Tambura, Ezo, Nagero, Mvolo, Maridi, Mundri East, and Mundri West counties to identify and promptly report areas experiencing insecurity to enable swift government intervention.<\/p>\n

Governor Rimbasa urged county leaders to strengthen community dialogue and encourage peaceful conflict resolution, saying such efforts are essential in addressing local grievances and fostering unity in line with the national peace agenda.<\/p>\n

As the country prepares for the December 2026 elections, the governor also directed county authorities to support the National Elections Commission by creating a secure and conducive environment for civic and voter education, voter registration, and the identification of polling stations.<\/p>\n

He said cooperation among local governments, security institutions, community leaders, and civil society would be critical in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process across the state.<\/p>\n

Governor Rimbasa further appealed to all stakeholders in Western Equatoria State to work together to safeguard peace and encourage citizens to participate responsibly in the electoral process, stressing that stability remains essential for successful elections and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

South Sudan is preparing for its first general elections since gaining independence in 2011, with the polls scheduled for 22 December 2026.<\/p>\n

The government and electoral authorities have repeatedly called on state governments to strengthen security and support election-related activities, including voter registration, civic education, and logistical preparations, to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
