{"id":46262,"date":"2026-07-21T17:16:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T15:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=46262"},"modified":"2026-07-21T17:16:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T15:16:14","slug":"east-african-central-banks-to-chat-regions-convergence-criteria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/21\/east-african-central-banks-to-chat-regions-convergence-criteria\/","title":{"rendered":"East African Central Banks to chat region&#8217;s convergence criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Ngor Deng Matem<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Technical officials from East African central banks have convened in Kampala, Uganda, for the 29th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC).<\/p>\n<p>The meeting brings together representatives from EAC Partner States, including South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Somalia, while the Democratic Republic of Congo is absent.<\/p>\n<p>The MAC was established to enhance coordination among EAC central banks, strengthen monetary cooperation, and support regional economic and financial integration.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of South Sudan is participating in the meeting with a delegation headed by the Director General for Research and Economic Analysis, Mr. Abugo Charles Joseph.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Abugo said South Sudan\u2019s participation demonstrates the country\u2019s commitment to the EAC regional integration agenda and continued cooperation with partner states to promote monetary stability and financial sector development.<\/p>\n<p>The technical session, running from 20\u201324 July 2026 in Kampala, is discussing the global and domestic macroeconomic environment, monetary and financial sector policy issues, climate change, and other matters related to the region\u2019s convergence criteria.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Bank Governors are expected to consider the report of the technical officials, endorse its recommendations, and sign the conference communique on Friday, July 24, 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ngor Deng Matem Technical officials from East African central banks have convened in Kampala, Uganda, for the 29th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC).
