South Sudan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has dismissed reports alleging that the government has introduced a visa-free entry policy for nationals of Egypt and Tanzania.<\/p>\n

The government described the claims as false and misleading.<\/p>\n

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the ministry reaffirmed an earlier clarification by the Ministry of Interior, stressing that no changes have been made to the country’s immigration or visa policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan reaffirms the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior addressing false and misleading claims that continue to circulate on some media outlets regarding the alleged new visa-free entry policy for nationals of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Republic of Tanzania and other related fees to other countries, including the members of the East African Community,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

The ministry assured the public, diplomatic missions, regional and international organisations, development partners, and media institutions that immigration matters remain the responsibility of legally mandated national authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterates and reassures the general public and diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of South Sudan, regional and international organisations, development partners, and media outlets that matters concerning entry, immigration, and visa policy remain the exclusive purview of the competent national authorities, namely the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration under the Ministry of Interior,\u201d the ministry stated.<\/p>\n

The ministry further emphasised that South Sudan’s regional and international obligations prevent it from introducing selective visa arrangements that would favour only certain countries while excluding others with which it maintains similar cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, the Republic of South Sudan is a member of the East African Community (EAC), IGAD, and the African Union (AU), among others. Therefore, South Sudan cannot be selective towards the sisterly states of Egypt and Tanzania while disregarding the other member states and bilateral cooperation agreements on visas signed with other countries,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The ministry urged the public and media organisations to rely on official government communications for information relating to visa regulations and immigration policies to avoid confusion and misinformation.<\/p>\n

The clarification follows widespread reports circulating on social media and some online media platforms claiming that South Sudan had adopted a new visa-free entry policy for citizens of Egypt and Tanzania and had revised visa fees affecting nationals from other countries, including members of the East African Community.<\/p>\n

The reports prompted the Ministry of Interior to issue a public clarification denying the claims. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has now reinforced that position, reiterating that immigration and visa policy remain under the authority of the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration within the Ministry of Interior.<\/p>\n

South Sudan is a member of several regional organisations, including the East African Community (EAC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the African Union (AU).<\/p>\n

The government says any changes to visa policies are guided by existing laws, regional commitments, and bilateral agreements and will only be announced through official government channels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
