The governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong, has called for the protection of lawful investments in Kapoeta South County.<\/p>\n

He warned that the destruction of businesses and private property discourages investors, threatens jobs, and slows economic development.<\/p>\n

The governor made the remarks during a consultative meeting in Karengak Payam attended by officials from the National Security Service, senior police officers, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), traditional leaders, local government officials, and community members.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, the governor condemned recent incidents in which mining companies and their property were destroyed.<\/p>\n

He described the attacks as harmful to both local communities and the state’s economy.<\/p>\n

The governor said investors who operate within the law should be protected and allowed to carry out their activities in a peaceful environment.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that investment plays a critical role in creating employment opportunities, improving local infrastructure, and generating revenue that can support the delivery of public services.<\/p>\n

Lobong added that companies that suffered losses from the destruction of their property should receive appropriate compensation in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n

The governor urged communities to address grievances through dialogue instead of violence, saying disputes should be resolved peacefully to preserve stability and encourage continued investment.<\/p>\n

He also called on political, traditional, and community leaders to exercise responsible leadership by avoiding statements or actions that could incite violence or deepen divisions. Instead, he encouraged them to promote unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among communities.<\/p>\n

While emphasising investment protection, the governor also highlighted agriculture as a key driver of economic growth.<\/p>\n

He encouraged residents to invest in farming to improve food security, increase household incomes, and reduce poverty, noting that peace and stability are necessary for both agriculture and business to thrive.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment by state authorities, security agencies, traditional leaders, and residents to work together to maintain peace, protect investments, and accelerate development in Kapoeta South County.<\/p>\n

Kapoeta South County, located in Eastern Equatoria State, has significant mineral resources that have attracted both local and foreign mining companies in recent years.<\/p>\n

The mining sector has been viewed as an important source of employment and revenue, with the potential to contribute to local and national economic growth.<\/p>\n

However, some mining operations have faced resistance from sections of local communities over concerns related to land ownership, environmental impacts, employment opportunities, and the sharing of benefits from natural resources.<\/p>\n

In some instances, these disagreements have escalated into confrontations that destroyed company property, disrupting business operations and raising concerns among investors.<\/p>\n

The state government has increasingly stressed the importance of balancing community interests with the need to create a secure and predictable investment environment.<\/p>\n

Authorities say protecting legitimate investments while ensuring that the community benefits from development projects is essential to attracting more investors and supporting long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n

The Governor’s remarks come as the government continues efforts to strengthen peace and improve the investment climate across Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n
