{"id":46408,"date":"2026-07-27T16:27:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T14:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=46408"},"modified":"2026-07-27T16:27:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T14:27:27","slug":"peace-communities-urge-stronger-grassroots-mediation-in-torit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/27\/peace-communities-urge-stronger-grassroots-mediation-in-torit\/","title":{"rendered":"PEACE: Communities urge stronger grassroots mediation in Torit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Ijoo Bosco<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participants in a three-day insider mediation training in Torit have called for stronger community-based peace mechanisms, saying local mediation remains essential to preventing conflicts and fostering lasting peace across Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n<p>The training, organised by the Eastern Equatoria State Ministry of Peacebuilding in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), concluded on Saturday after equipping participants with practical skills in conflict prevention, mediation, negotiation, and dialogue facilitation.<\/p>\n<p>The program was designed to strengthen the capacity of local leaders and community representatives to peacefully resolve disputes before they escalate into violence.<\/p>\n<p>It also promoted culturally grounded and locally owned approaches to peacebuilding.<\/p>\n<p>Using the Insider Mediation Training Manual developed by the National Transformational Leadership Institute (NTLI) and UNDP&#8217;s Peace and Community Cohesion Project, participants explored conflict analysis, communication, reconciliation, and inclusive dialogue as tools for addressing community tensions.<\/p>\n<p>The training brought together traditional authorities, women, youth representatives, religious leaders, and civil society organisations from across Eastern Equatoria State, reinforcing collaboration among key actors involved in community peace efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the participants during the closing session, Angelina described the training as timely and practical, saying it had strengthened participants&#8217; understanding of mediation and negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>She called on development partners and the state government to expand similar training programs to reach more communities, noting that local leaders play a critical role in preventing and resolving conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Angelina also urged traditional leaders to pay closer attention to the underlying causes of disputes rather than focusing only on their immediate effects.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasised that strengthening indigenous and community-led mediation systems would provide sustainable solutions to local conflicts and help build stronger social cohesion across Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ijoo Bosco Participants in a three-day insider mediation training in Torit have called for stronger community-based peace mechanisms, saying local mediation remains essential to preventing conflicts and fostering lasting peace across Eastern Equatoria State.
