The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) has resumed its engagement in Western Equatoria State after the closure of its Yambio field office due to financial constraints, with state authorities reaffirming their commitment to sustaining peace and implementing the peace agreement.<\/p>\n

During a courtesy visit by the CTSAMVM Monitoring and Verification Team (MVT), Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa assured the delegation of the state government’s full political support in advancing peace, stability, and the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.<\/p>\n

Governor Rimbasa said the overall security situation in Western Equatoria has improved significantly, noting that there are currently no active armed conflicts across the state.<\/p>\n

“Despite the financial challenges affecting many institutions, our commitment to serving the people remains strong,” the governor said.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that isolated criminal incidents continue to occur in some areas but stressed that security forces are actively responding to maintain law and order.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, Tambura County has largely returned to normalcy following previous insecurity, while Nagero County continues to register stability improvements.<\/p>\n

Governor Rimbasa emphasised that lasting peace requires a shift from a culture of conflict to one of reconciliation and coexistence. He called for renewed efforts to rebuild trust among communities, strengthen reconciliation initiatives, and enhance conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms.<\/p>\n

He further advocated for stronger early warning systems, improved justice and accountability, and better public service delivery to restore citizens’ confidence in government institutions.<\/p>\n

“The government of Western Equatoria State remains committed to protecting citizens, consolidating peace, and working with all stakeholders to ensure lasting stability and development,” he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Maureen Kizito, Patrol Commander of the CTSAMVM Monitoring and Verification Team in Juba and an international observer from Uganda, commended Governor Rimbasa for his continued cooperation with the peace monitoring mission.<\/p>\n

Kizito explained that although CTSAMVM was forced to close its Yambio field office because of financial constraints, the mission’s activities in Western Equatoria have not ceased.<\/p>\n

She said responsibility for monitoring operations has been transferred to the Juba-based team, which now oversees CTSAMVM activities across the Greater Equatoria region, including Western, Central, and Eastern Equatoria states.<\/p>\n

“Our operations have been merged with the Juba team, which now oversees CTSAMVM activities across Greater Equatoria, including Western, Central, and Eastern Equatoria States,” Kizito said.<\/p>\n

She reaffirmed CTSAMVM’s commitment to working closely with state authorities and local communities to support the implementation of the peace agreement and sustain stability in the region.<\/p>\n

The delegation also included John Odongo, representing the SPLM-IG and the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).<\/p>\n

The visit comes as CTSAMVM continues to monitor compliance with the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), despite financial challenges affecting some of its field operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
