Health workers at Rumbek State Hospital have been praised for their unwavering commitment to saving lives despite going for months without receiving salaries and incentives.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, the hospital recognised the dedication of Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, laboratory professionals, Pharmacists, Cleaners, and support staff who continue to report to work every day to provide essential healthcare services to communities across Lakes State.<\/p>\n

The statement said that despite the financial challenges facing the health workforce, medical personnel have remained committed to delivering quality and compassionate care to patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day, the doctors, nurses, midwives, laboratory professionals, pharmacists, cleaners, and support staff at Rumbek State Hospital Walk through the hospital gates with one mission to save lives. Despite going for months without receiving their salaries, they continue to provide compassionate, quality care to the people of Lakes State,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the hospital’s frontline workers continue to perform critical duties, including treating emergency cases, conducting surgeries, assisting mothers during childbirth, caring for children, carrying out laboratory tests, and providing specialised care for premature babies in the Special Baby Unit.<\/p>\n

The hospital described the staff’s resilience and professionalism as a reflection of their commitment to public service.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir resilience and professionalism are a powerful testament to the true spirit of public service,\u201d the statement reads in part.<\/p>\n

The statement also highlighted the role of the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP), which supports Rumbek State Hospital through investments aimed at improving healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n

It noted that while the project continues to strengthen the health system through infrastructure development, medical supplies, equipment, and capacity building, it is the commitment of frontline health workers that makes those investments meaningful.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile investments in infrastructure, medicines, equipment, and health system strengthening continue to improve healthcare delivery, it is the dedication of frontline health workers that truly brings these investments to life\u201d. the statement reads<\/p>\n

The hospital further acknowledged the sacrifices made by its staff, saying their commitment has enabled mothers to access safe deliveries, children to receive treatment, emergency patients to receive life-saving care, and vulnerable newborns to survive despite difficult working conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour sacrifice, resilience, and compassion are making a lasting difference in the lives of countless South Sudanese. Thank you for your unwavering service. You are the heartbeat of our health system,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

The statement concluded by paying tribute to all health workers at the hospital, describing them as unsung heroes whose dedication continues to inspire hope despite months of unpaid salaries and incentives.<\/p>\n

Rumbek State Hospital is the main referral health facility in Lakes State and provides essential and specialised healthcare services to thousands of people from across the state and neighbouring areas.<\/p>\n

The hospital offers emergency care, maternal and child health services, surgery, laboratory diagnostics, pharmacy services, and neonatal care through its Special Baby Unit.<\/p>\n

The facility is supported under the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP), a Government of South Sudan-led programme aimed at strengthening the country’s health system and expanding access to quality essential health services.<\/p>\n

The project is funded by the World Bank and a consortium of development partners, with financial resources managed by UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in support of the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

Like many public institutions in South Sudan, health facilities have faced challenges related to delayed salary payments for health workers.<\/p>\n
