{"id":46736,"date":"2026-08-08T13:39:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T11:39:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=46736"},"modified":"2026-08-10T13:46:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T11:46:16","slug":"nbgs-high-election-commission-begins-polling-booth-verification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/08\/nbgs-high-election-commission-begins-polling-booth-verification\/","title":{"rendered":"NBGS High Election Commission begins polling booth verification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Hou Akot Hou<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The High Election Commission Office in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State officially began visiting electoral constituencies on Thursday to verify polling stations ahead of the anticipated elections.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise is being conducted in the constituencies designated during the 2010 elections, as no new constituencies have been created since then.<\/p>\n<p>Despite facing funding shortages, the Election Commission says it remains committed to implementing its electoral mandate, including voter education and voter registration, which are expected to begin soon.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the press on Thursday, the chairperson of the Northern Bahr El Ghazal State High Election Committee said the team has commenced visits to all five counties in the state to assess the condition and readiness of polling booths that have remained in place since the 2010 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Akuei Yak, the head of the High Election Commission in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, said the exercise began in Aweil South County, where voter education activities will also be launched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have started visiting the counties, beginning with Aweil South County. Our next stop will be Aweil North before proceeding to the remaining counties, including Majok-Yith-Thiou, a municipal council located along the border with Sudan,\u201d Yak said.<\/p>\n<p>Yak added that the team had met with the governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Charles Madut Akol, who authorised the verification exercise.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the Commission is carrying out its duties in accordance with the law and remains committed to delivering a credible electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis delegation includes representatives from civil society organisations, youth groups, women, and other institutions to ensure transparency and oversight throughout the process,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Aweil South County, Ayom Akol Wek, confirmed the arrival of the Commission&#8217;s delegation and pledged the community&#8217;s cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to listen to them and provide the information they need.
