This situation calls for a stronger and more consistent retirement policy that balances respect for experience with the need to create opportunities for the next generation.<\/p>\n
Retirement is not a punishment or a dismissal of one’s contribution to society. Rather, it is a natural stage of public service that allows institutions to renew themselves while recognising the achievements of those who have served.<\/p>\n
A well-enforced retirement policy ensures fairness, promotes institutional efficiency, and creates space for younger professionals to bring fresh ideas and modern approaches to governance.<\/p>\n
South Sudan has invested in educating thousands of young people at home and abroad. Many graduates return with valuable knowledge and skills, eager to contribute to national development.<\/p>\n
Yet, without vacancies in government institutions and public agencies, many remain unemployed or seek opportunities outside the country.<\/p>\n
This represents not only a personal loss but also a loss of national talent that could otherwise support economic growth and improved public service delivery.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the experience of senior public servants should not be discarded. Their knowledge and institutional memory are invaluable.<\/p>\n
Instead of extending their tenure indefinitely, the government can establish mechanisms for retired officials to continue serving as mentors, advisers, trainers, or members of advisory councils.<\/p>\n
Such arrangements would preserve their expertise while allowing younger professionals to assume leadership responsibilities.<\/p>\n
