It referred to 19th-century records, including accounts by Father Franz Morlang and British officials, which it said documented Nyamini as part of the wider Yangwara territory.

The community also disputed claims by the Ku’da Lodimi community, saying its settlement in the area dates to the 1930s and was made possible through hospitality and permission granted by the Yangwara people.

The Yangwara leadership argued that allowing people to settle on the land did not amount to a transfer of ancestral ownership.

The community further cited the findings of the 2013 Juba County Peace and Reconciliation Committee, which it said recognised the disputed land as traditionally and historically owned by the Yangwara and recommended that no unilateral demarcation or investor activity take place until the dispute was resolved.

It also referred to the official Warrant of Establishment for Dolo Payam, issued in 1999 and based on the 1956 Sudan national borders, saying the document included Nyamini village as part of Dolo.

The statement alleged that despite these records and subsequent government directives, illegal demarcation and the issuance of plot documents continued.

The community specifically cited Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony’s Governor’s Order No. 19/2026, issued on March 2, 2026, which it said cancelled the issuance of plot documents and suspended activities in the disputed land.

The Yangwara leadership called for the order to be fully enforced and urged the state government to work with the community to lawfully demarcate Nyamini and issue valid documents to eligible citizens.

It also called on the Juba County commissioner to remain impartial and enforce the law without delay or selective action.

The community said it remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the dispute but warned that it would continue to defend what it considers its ancestral land through lawful means.

The statement also criticised the alleged involvement of individuals in army uniform in land-grabbing activities and called on security personnel to refrain from participating in illegal land activities.

“We condemn all unlawful land-grabbing activities and any official or unofficial support that enables them,” the community said, warning that continued inaction could deepen injustice, weaken public trust, and threaten peace.

The community further disclosed that on March 24, 2026, seven chiefs and headmen of Ladu Payam, together with members of the Ku’da Lodimini community, filed a case before the County Court against Chief Emmanuel Juma Gak, Chief Roman Ladu Denis of Tjor Payam, and others over Nyamini.

The Yangwara leadership described the court action as an abuse of traditional authority and urged those involved to respect the law and withdraw from actions that could further escalate the dispute.

Yapete Mogga Abdalla said the community’s position was not intended to provoke conflict but to seek recognition of what it considers its historical and customary rights.

The community appealed to the state government to act “decisively, fairly, and without delay,” saying development and land allocation should not proceed while ownership remains under legal and customary dispute.

The Yangwara-Pojulu Tjor community concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to peace while insisting that the Nyamini dispute be addressed through lawful procedures, historical evidence, and respect for ancestral land rights.

By Louis Loku The Yangwara-Pojulu Tjor community has renewed its claim over Nyamini land, calling on the Central Equatoria State Government to enforce existing orders and halt what it describes as unlawful demarcation, land allocation, and development activities in the disputed area.
