President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the governments of Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states to step up joint efforts to resolve a territorial dispute between communities along their shared border.<\/p>\n

The directive followed a briefing by Warrap Governor Bol Wek Agoth and Western Bahr el Ghazal Governor Sheriff Daniel Sheriff on the security situation and ongoing peace efforts involving communities in Gogrial East County and Jur River County.<\/p>\n

At the center of the dispute is Manyang, an area claimed by communities from both counties.<\/p>\n

Governor Bol Wek told the president that joint interventions by the two state governments and security authorities had helped ease tensions in the area.<\/p>\n

He nevertheless called for continued cooperation to address the grievances behind the dispute and prevent renewed violence.<\/p>\n

The two state governments are seeking support to organise an inclusive peace and reconciliation conference that would bring together traditional leaders, community elders, women, youth, intellectuals, and other representatives from both sides.<\/p>\n

The proposed conference would provide a forum for the communities to address their grievances, discuss the dispute, and work toward a lasting settlement.<\/p>\n

Governor Wek also pointed to the longstanding social and economic links between the communities, saying their shared history could serve as a basis for reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The governors further appealed to media organisations and social media users to avoid messages that could inflame tensions and instead promote dialogue, restraint, and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n

President Kiir\u2019s intervention places renewed emphasis on cooperation between the two state governments and local communities in managing the dispute.<\/p>\n

The peace initiative comes ahead of the 2026 general elections, with state authorities facing pressure to maintain stability and prevent local conflicts from disrupting the wider political and electoral environment.<\/p>\n
