The SPLM-IO National Committee for Information and Communication has dismissed reports circulating on social media and through some local media outlets claiming that the party\u2019s Interim Chairman, Cde. Amb. Stephen Par Kuol, fled Juba for Uganda because of the prevailing political situation in the capital.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, the committee described the reports as misinformation and false speculation, saying they had been circulated without proper verification.<\/p>\n

The committee clarified that Stephen Par Kuol travelled to Kampala, Uganda, on a private family mission to visit his loved ones and that his trip was not connected to political pressure or concerns over his security.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis visit has nothing to do with political pressure, and the chairman is expected to return to Juba this week,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

The clarification comes amid continued political uncertainty in South Sudan, where parties to the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) remain engaged in efforts to implement the peace agreement and sustain the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe SPLM-IO information and communication committee also urged media houses and other local outlets to uphold professional journalism standards by verifying information before publication,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

It warned that fabricated claims and unsubstantiated reports could mislead the public and create unnecessary political tensions.<\/p>\n

The committee further said responsible reporting was important to protecting the implementation of the R-ARCSS and supporting ongoing efforts by the R-TGoNU to maintain peace and political stability.<\/p>\n

The SPLM-IO urged journalists and media organisations to seek confirmation from credible sources before publishing reports concerning senior political leaders, particularly on matters that could have implications for national peace and stability.<\/p>\n

The party maintained that the interim chairman’s visit to Kampala is a private family matter and reiterated that he is expected back in Juba this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
