The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) continues to play an important role in supporting peace, protecting civilians, and assisting vulnerable communities across the country.<\/p>\n
Through humanitarian and peacebuilding efforts, UNMISS and its partners have continued to reach people affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, and other emergencies.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the work of humanitarian organisations and peacekeepers is sometimes disrupted by armed groups and individuals who fail to understand the importance of humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n
Attacks, threats, intimidation, and restrictions against humanitarian workers not only affect international organisations; they directly harm ordinary South Sudanese who depend on assistance to survive.<\/p>\n
Our people have suffered enough from years of conflict, displacement, and insecurity. When humanitarian workers are prevented from reaching communities, the greatest victims are women, children, the elderly, and people living in areas affected by violence.<\/p>\n
These are citizens who need food, medicine, shelter, clean water, and protection, not another obstacle standing between them and the assistance they desperately need.<\/p>\n
Armed groups must therefore understand that humanitarian assistance is not a political weapon. It is a lifeline for people in need.<\/p>\n
UNMISS and humanitarian organisations are in South Sudan to support civilians and contribute to a safer and more peaceful environment. Their presence should not be viewed as a threat but as an opportunity to save lives and strengthen communities.<\/p>\n
The government and all armed groups must work together to guarantee the safety and freedom of movement of humanitarian personnel.<\/p>\n
International humanitarian principles must be respected, and aid workers must be allowed to perform their duties without fear of attack or harassment.<\/p>\n
South Sudan needs peace, development, and humanitarian support, not actions that make the suffering of civilians worse.<\/p>\n
Armed groups should put down their differences and recognise that their own communities benefit when humanitarian organisations can operate freely.<\/p>\n
This is a moment for responsibility. Those holding weapons must understand that protecting civilians is more important than pursuing narrow interests.<\/p>\n
They must stop attacking or obstructing humanitarian workers and allow UNMISS and its partners to continue serving the people.<\/p>\n
The people of South Sudan deserve assistance, protection, and dignity. Let humanitarian workers do their work, let peacekeepers protect civilians, and let every armed group choose cooperation over confrontation.<\/p>\n
South Sudan needs helping hands, not more barriers to survival.<\/p>\n
