The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has summoned the ambassadors of Germany, Japan, Norway, and the United States over a joint statement issued by the four diplomatic missions on August 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

According to a statement that was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday, the minister, Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, expressed the government’s concern over the content of the coordinated statement.<\/p>\n

Pitia described it as inappropriate and divisive, particularly as South Sudan prepares for the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the meeting, Dr. Pitia underscored the importance of national ownership and respect for established diplomatic norms, including the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of a receiving state,” the statement partly read.<\/p>\n

He stressed that sensitive political matters should be handled through appropriate diplomatic channels rather than through public statements that could affect the political environment.<\/p>\n

Minister Pitia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan and preparations for the electoral process.<\/p>\n

As the country moves closer to elections, Dr. Pitia called on all stakeholders, including regional and international partners, to support efforts aimed at maintaining a peaceful, calm, and conducive environment for the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government remains committed to ensuring that the country moves forward in an atmosphere of peace and stability,” the statement continued.<\/p>\n

The four ambassadors were also allowed to clarify the basis and intentions behind their joint statement.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.<\/p>\n

The development comes at a critical time as South Sudan intensifies preparations for its first elections since gaining independence, with the government urging both domestic and international partners to respect national institutions and contribute constructively to peace, stability, and the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
