The Jonglei State government is set to investigate the burning of several houses belonging to Bor County Commissioner Samuel Ateny Pech Ariik.<\/p>\n

Ateny accused members of the Red Belt armed youth group of being behind the incident.<\/p>\n

The houses were reportedly set ablaze in Bor town on Saturday afternoon, August 29, prompting security concerns in the county and calls for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.<\/p>\n

In an interview with No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Commissioner Ateny said the incident was not an accident but a deliberate attack on his residence.<\/p>\n

He alleged that the people who carried out the attack were members of the Red Belt and said their identities were known.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe individuals who entered my compound and burned my houses are members of the Red Belt. The state government will investigate, and those behind will be arrested. They are known by their names, and they are the ones who burned my houses,\u201d Ateny said.<\/p>\n

The commissioner said he was away from the compound when the houses were set on fire.<\/p>\n

Ateny said the matter would now require the involvement of the state government and security authorities to establish what happened and identify those responsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe state government will investigate this incident, and those who are behind it will be arrested,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He did not disclose whether any arrests had been made or whether security forces had identified specific suspects following the incident.<\/p>\n

The burning of the commissioner\u2019s residence adds another layer to the security tensions that have surrounded Bor in recent months, particularly the authorities\u2019 confrontation with the Red Belt.<\/p>\n

The Red Belt has been described by government officials as an armed youth group that has increasingly become a security challenge in Bor.<\/p>\n

The group has previously clashed with government security forces, resulting in deaths and injuries.<\/p>\n
