President Kiir briefed the South African leadership on progress made in preparations for the elections, the work that remains, and measures needed to ensure a peaceful, credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral process,&#8221; the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions also covered potential areas for South African and African support, including voter registration and education, election logistics, security coordination, political dialogue, election monitoring, and building public confidence.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan welcomes credible African observers as part of efforts to strengthen confidence and transparency in the electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond elections, President Kiir and President Ramaphosa reviewed progress on previous commitments and discussed expanding cooperation in peace and security, trade and investment, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education and skills development, and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s experience in peace-building, democratic transition, and elections provides valuable lessons for South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs emphasised during the visit, South Sudan is learning from South Africa, not copying South Africa, while remaining responsible for its own electoral process and institutions,&#8221; the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>President Kiir was received at Juba International Airport by Vice President for Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga, alongside other senior government officials.<\/p>\n<p>The visit reaffirmed the strong and longstanding relationship between South Sudan and South Africa, adding that both countries are committed to moving from historical solidarity toward a more practical economic partnership that delivers tangible benefits for their peoples.<\/p>\n<p>Continued engagement with regional partners remains important as South Sudan works toward completing its political transition through democratic elections and strengthening peace, stability, and development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lodu William Odiya President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba after concluding a week-long working visit to the Republic of South Africa, where he held high-level engagements with President Cyril Ramaphosa on South Sudan\u2019s preparations for the December 2026 General Elections and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
