{"id":47377,"date":"2026-08-30T13:50:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T11:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=47377"},"modified":"2026-09-01T13:50:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T11:50:30","slug":"ssra-pledges-digital-transformation-to-boost-east-african-trade-integration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/30\/ssra-pledges-digital-transformation-to-boost-east-african-trade-integration\/","title":{"rendered":"SSRA pledges digital transformation to boost East African trade integration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Lodu William Odiya<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the East African Community and trade institutions through the digitalisation and modernisation of its customs systems.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement that was released by the SSRA press unit on Friday, Solomon Ariik Manyok, SSRA Deputy Commissioner General, while speaking during the 7th edition of the Global Logistics Convention in Juba, stated that the authority was on the verge of a major digital transformation aimed at aligning its customs operations with regional and international standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are on the verge of digital transformation, and the customs system will be digital. We are going to have a customs system that will integrate with the East African Community,\u201d Manyok said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>He called on clearing and forwarding agents, traders, and regional partners to work closely with the SSRA to improve trade facilitation and strengthen cross-border cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Manyok said the success of the revenue authority depends on close collaboration with key regional institutions, particularly the Kenya Revenue Authority, Uganda Revenue Authority, and Tanzania\u2019s revenue and port authorities.<\/p>\n<p>According to Manyok, SSRA cannot be successful alone without trade agents and partners in the region.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that the SSRA was working to modernise its systems nationwide while coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to ensure that its revenue administration and customs operations meet East African and global standards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The SSRA remains committed to working with regional partners, neighbouring customs administrations, transport authorities, security agencies, and the private sector to reduce barriers and improve the efficiency of our trade corridors,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The digital transformation is expected to improve customs efficiency, facilitate cross-border trade, reduce delays, and strengthen revenue collection as South Sudan deepens its integration into the East African Community.<\/p>\n<p>The 7th Global Logistics Convention was held under the theme, \u201cTransport and Logistics as a Catalyst for Africa\u2019s Integrated and Sustainable Economic Growth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The convention was organised by the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association in partnership with the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lodu William Odiya The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the East African Community and trade institutions through the digitalisation and modernisation of its customs systems.
