{"id":47484,"date":"2026-09-03T14:27:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T12:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=47484"},"modified":"2026-09-03T14:30:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T12:30:30","slug":"drug-and-food-control-authority-orders-recall-of-two-unlicensed-medicines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/03\/drug-and-food-control-authority-orders-recall-of-two-unlicensed-medicines\/","title":{"rendered":"Drug and Food Control Authority orders recall of two unlicensed medicines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Lodu William Odiya<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>South Sudan\u2019s Drug and Food Control Authority (DFCA) has ordered pharmacies and health facilities to immediately remove and surrender two unregistered medicines, Duphaston and Navidoxine.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement seen by the No. 1 Citizen Daily English Newspaper on Wednesday, the authority said the medicines entered South Sudan through unauthorised channels and were not approved for use in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Inspection and Surveillance of the Drug and Food Control Authority issued this immediate recall of the above-mentioned two medicines (Duphason and Navidoxine) due to serious concerns over patient safety and medicine quality,&#8221; the statement partly read.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Peter Aguek Kon, DFCA Director General for Inspection and Surveillance, said pharmacies and health facilities found keeping or selling the medicines could face closure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to go to each pharmacy, and if we find them, the pharmacy has to be closed because they are against the law,\u201d Aguek said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the authority could not identify a specific batch of concern because the medicines were brought into the country without approval.<\/p>\n<p>DFCA inspectors are expected to visit pharmacies across the country to enforce the recall.<\/p>\n<p>The authority has also asked members of the public who possess the medicines to report where they obtained them to support investigations.<\/p>\n<p>Duphaston is commonly used for some reproductive health conditions, while Navidoxine is used to control severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
