The Eastern Equatoria State Economic Reforms Committee arrived in Nimule and took up discussions on economic reforms and revenue administration and oversaw the implementation of revenue collection.<\/p>\n

In a statement that was released yesterday, the move is in line with resolutions of the state and national governments, including recommendations concerning the reopening of state revenue offices that had been closed in 2024.<\/p>\n

The committee was welcomed by the Mayor of Nimule Municipal Council, Caesar Longa Fuli, who assured it of the council\u2019s full cooperation.<\/p>\n

He, however, cited the ongoing dry spell as one of the main challenges affecting the town.<\/p>\n

The committee is led by the State Advisor on Economic Affairs, German Charles Ojok, who also serves as the chairperson of the committee.<\/p>\n

The delegation included Peter Lokeng Lotone, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement and Deputy Chairperson of the committee; Ruth Marious Buga, Minister of Trade and Industry and a member of the committee; and Mr. Geoffrey Otto, Secretary of the committee.<\/p>\n

During a brief meeting upon the committee\u2019s arrival on Tuesday, Ojok said the committee has a two-fold mission, which is to ensure the proper implementation of revenue collection at all levels of government and to engage stakeholders on development strategies for Nimule Municipal Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first mission is to implement the constitutional provision on revenue collection rights for every level of government. It was already agreed that what is supposed to be collected by the municipality should entirely be collected by the municipality, what is for the State should be collected by the State, and what is for the National Government should be collected by the National Government, because we have one government,\u201d Ojok said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur second mission is about the development of Nimule. There has been concern that although revenue is collected from Nimule, the town does not reflect that development. We want Nimule to develop. We have come to share ideas with the leadership, starting with the mayor and community leaders, including youth and women, on how we can collectively develop Nimule,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

According to Ojok, the committee will assess existing challenges affecting the growth and development of Nimule and propose practical solutions.<\/p>\n

The committee is expected to conclude its three-day mission with a set of resolutions aimed at harmonising revenue collection and accelerating development in Nimule.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
