A 14-year-old boy has died after being bitten by a snake in Aweil South County, officials have confirmed.<\/p>\n

Simon Lual Buk, the Information Director in the Office of the Aweil South County Commissioner, said the incident occurred on Sunday at Bur-Ajak village in Gak-Rol Payam.<\/p>\n

According to Lual, the boy was bitten after he entered a garden and accidentally stepped on a large snake believed to have been a python.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe boy, identified as Majok Riing Atem and in his mid-teens, was bitten on Sunday and died shortly afterwards,\u201d Lual said.<\/p>\n

Lual said relatives and neighbours immediately attempted to take the victim to a health facility for treatment and antivenom, but he died before he could be saved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe relatives and residents of Bur-Ajak rushed him to the health facility so that they could save him, but unfortunately, the victim passed away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The incident has caused concern among residents, particularly during the rainy season when snakes and other reptiles are more commonly encountered.<\/p>\n

Lual urged residents to exercise caution when working or moving through gardens and other areas where snakes may be present.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs it has happened to this boy, such incidents are common in Aweil South during the wet or rainy season. People need to be very careful and remain alert to such dangers,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

The official said antivenom had been distributed in the area last month, but snake and other animal bites continue to pose a threat to residents.<\/p>\n

Woman Reported Missing in Aweil North<\/p>\n

In a related development, a woman has reportedly gone missing in Aweil North County.<\/p>\n

Some residents said the woman was seen crossing a river but was not seen again afterwards. There is speculation that she may have drowned, although officials have not confirmed her fate.<\/p>\n

Authorities have urged residents to exercise extra caution during the rainy season, when rising water levels, snakes, and other wildlife can pose additional risks to communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
