Across South Sudan, late marriage has become a growing trend among educated youth. It is often portrayed as progress, yet in truth it offers no real advantage. Instead, it undermines our traditions, weakens religious values, and distorts the meaning of love.<\/p>\n
Pride and the pursuit of wealth have replaced humility and community. Young men and women delay marriage, believing financial status or an idealised “type” will secure happiness. Ironically, many reject genuine partners while chasing illusions that may never exist. This mindset leaves them vulnerable to loneliness, broken expectations, and cultural disconnection.<\/p>\n
Marriage is not a poverty alleviation program. It is not measured by the size of a bank account or the extravagance of a wedding ceremony. True marriage rests on respect, compatibility, and genuine love values that cannot be bought or delayed. The obsession with money and status has blinded many to the essence of family life.<\/p>\n
Our society must stop deceiving itself. Early marriage, grounded in culture and faith, fosters stronger families and healthier communities. It builds resilience, continuity, and trust. Late marriage, by contrast, often produces instability and regret. The longer we postpone, the more we risk losing the foundation that binds us together.<\/p>\n
The ideology of “he is not my type” or “she is not my type” is a dangerous distraction. Marriage is not about chasing perfection; it is about embracing reality with respect and love. We must return to the wisdom of our traditions and recognise that marriage is simply marriage, nothing more, nothing less.<\/p>\n
