{"id":47624,"date":"2026-09-08T12:04:44","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T10:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=47624"},"modified":"2026-09-08T12:05:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T10:05:39","slug":"former-detainees-condemn-nyandeng-remarks-at-kosti-manibes-funeral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/08\/former-detainees-condemn-nyandeng-remarks-at-kosti-manibes-funeral\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Detainees condemn Nyandeng remarks at Kosti Manibe&#8217;s funeral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Sabri Dibaco<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Former Political Detainees (FDs) have rejected Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng\u2019s remarks, warning against political incitement and violence.<\/p>\n<p>The FDs said Nyandeng\u2019s comments do not represent the group\u2019s official position.<\/p>\n<p>Nyandeng, a senior member of the Former Political Detainees, made the remarks during Kosti Manibe\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists on Monday, FD&#8217;s parliamentary whip Isaiah Hakim Garang rejected association with political activities during the funeral.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We, as former political detainees, are not part of whatever happened during the funeral of [late] Honourable Kosti Manibe. And we are condemning that very strongly,\u201d Garang said.<\/p>\n<p>Garang accused Nyandeng\u2019s remarks of encouraging political confrontation and warned young people against violence.<\/p>\n<p>He said political grievances should be addressed through peaceful and constitutional means, not through violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know people are facing problems in South Sudan. But we cannot do it through taking guns,\u201d Garang said.<\/p>\n<p>The FDs acknowledged citizens\u2019 right to demonstrate peacefully under constitutional provisions.<\/p>\n<p>However, they rejected efforts to mobilise young people for individual political interests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has the right to demonstrate through the process. This is the right of South Sudanese. But to mobilise and to incite the young people to go out for personal, individual benefit, we are not for that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Garang reaffirmed the FDs\u2019 continued membership within the ruling Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM).<\/p>\n<p>He also confirmed their participation in the transitional unity government established under the 2018 peace agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur position is very clear. We are standing with our president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, and the flag bearer of the SPLM,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The FDs\u2019 position comes amid growing political debate ahead of planned December 2026 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s response follows remarks made by Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior during Kosti Manibe Ngai\u2019s funeral in Juba.<\/p>\n<p>Nyandeng expressed frustration over what she described as South Sudan\u2019s deteriorating political and social conditions.<\/p>\n<p>She questioned the level of oversight surrounding President Salva Kiir Mayardit.<\/p>\n<p>Nyandeng also said she could sometimes go years without meeting the president.<\/p>\n<p>She challenged young<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sabri Dibaco The Former Political Detainees (FDs) have rejected Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng\u2019s remarks, warning against political incitement and violence.
