Education officials and local authorities in Yei River County have called on development partners to prioritise qualified residents when recruiting staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n

The officials said that local involvement could strengthen community ownership and accountability.<\/p>\n

The Director General for Education in Central Equatoria State, Ustas Emmanuel Moga Bennia, made the call during a meeting between officials from Stromme Foundation South Sudan and the leadership of Yei River County.<\/p>\n

Bennia urged development partners operating in the county to avoid discrimination in recruitment and allow qualified residents to participate in programs being implemented in their communities.<\/p>\n

He said local recruitment was particularly important for volunteer positions, arguing that involving people from the areas where programs operate could improve community participation and accountability.<\/p>\n

The meeting followed assessments by the national Ministry of General Education and Instruction that identified schools in need of additional support.<\/p>\n

Bennia called for stronger coordination between development partners, local authorities, and communities to ensure education programs are implemented effectively and reach their intended beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

The Stromme Foundation South Sudan Project Manager, Yuga Julious Ebam, visited Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo to discuss plans to support schools through teacher training and other educational services.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Malimbo welcomed the planned interventions but urged the organisation and other development partners to follow established government procedures when implementing projects in the county.<\/p>\n

He also stressed the importance of accountability, expressing concern that some development partners fail to fully implement activities outlined in their approved project plans.<\/p>\n

Malimbo said partners should ensure that their activities remain consistent with approved programs and budgets and encouraged organisations to coordinate with the county government before launching projects.<\/p>\n

He said such coordination was especially important for programs initiated through state-level authorities.<\/p>\n

The commissioner also highlighted the limited employment opportunities facing young graduates in Yei and urged development partners to consider qualified local youth when filling available positions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany young people in Yei are graduates but lack employment opportunities,\u201d Malimbo said.<\/p>\n

He argued that stronger cooperation between development partners and local communities could help address the employment challenge while ensuring that local people contribute directly to development programs in their communities.<\/p>\n

The Speaker of the Yei River County Council, Claudia Milla, also welcomed the support provided by development partners but echoed the call for greater consideration of local employment.<\/p>\n

Milla said employing qualified residents could strengthen community ownership of development projects while creating opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n

The education delegation and county leadership agreed on the need for continued coordination to ensure that support to schools is delivered transparently and in line with government priorities.<\/p>\n
