The long-awaited repairs on the Juba\u2013Nimule Highway are set to resume after the Ministry of Finance and the Economic Reform Committee approved funding for urgent maintenance.<\/p>\n

Rhino Construction Company is expected to receive the approved funds, allowing the contractor to begin addressing major potholes and sections of the highway that have suffered structural deterioration.<\/p>\n

Atem Peter, Managing Director of Rhino Construction Company, said the release of the funds would pave the way for the company to undertake the urgently needed repairs.<\/p>\n

The condition of the Juba\u2013Nimule Highway has raised concerns among motorists and road users, with deteriorating sections making travel more difficult and increasing risks for passengers and drivers.<\/p>\n

The highway is a critical economic lifeline for South Sudan, linking the capital, Juba, to the Ugandan border at Nimule. It is used daily by passenger vehicles, traders, and trucks transporting essential goods between South Sudan and Uganda.<\/p>\n

For businesses that depend on the road to move goods, the condition of the highway can have a direct impact on the cost and reliability of transportation. Improvements to the route are therefore expected to provide relief to road users and support trade between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The funding approval follows coordination between the Ministry of Roads and Bridges and financial institutions to mobilise resources for the maintenance of the highway.<\/p>\n

The planned intervention will initially focus on urgent sections requiring attention, particularly areas affected by potholes and structural damage.<\/p>\n

Once completed, the repairs are expected to improve road safety, reduce transportation difficulties, and make the movement of goods and passengers along the Juba\u2013Nimule corridor more efficient.<\/p>\n

For South Sudan, the highway remains more than just a road. It is a major artery for trade and the movement of people, connecting the country to regional markets through Uganda.<\/p>\n
