{"id":47690,"date":"2026-09-09T15:17:59","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T13:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=47690"},"modified":"2026-09-09T15:17:59","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T13:17:59","slug":"amdiss-holds-national-consultation-on-media-self-regulation-in-juba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/09\/amdiss-holds-national-consultation-on-media-self-regulation-in-juba\/","title":{"rendered":"AMDISS holds national consultation on media self-regulation in Juba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Sabri Dibaco <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) is hosting a national consultative workshop in Juba to discuss media self-regulation, ethical journalism, and professional accountability in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, organised by the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), has brought together key stakeholders from the media sector, including the South Sudan Media Authority, the Commission for Access to Information, media advocacy organisations, media houses, and journalists.<\/p>\n<p>According to AMDISS, the consultation is aimed at strengthening professional standards and promoting responsible journalism in South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation described the event as a \u201cNational Consultative Workshop on Media Self-Regulation,&#8221; with discussions focusing on how journalists and media institutions can improve ethical practices while maintaining their professional independence.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting comes at a time when questions surrounding media freedom, regulation, and journalists&#8217; professional responsibilities remain important issues in South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>The South Sudan Media Authority says its mandate includes promoting ethical and professional standards, protecting freedom of expression, and regulating the media industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Authority launched a journalists&#8217; Code of Conduct with UNESCO support in 2025, emphasising principles including accuracy, fairness, independence, privacy, professionalism, and integrity.<\/p>\n<p>The Code of Conduct is intended to provide a framework for professional journalism and responsible reporting in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The latest consultation also comes shortly after AMDISS and the Media Authority agreed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on challenges affecting the media sector ahead of anticipated elections.<\/p>\n<p>The two institutions identified issues including access to information, journalists&#8217; safety, and the operating environment for media houses.<\/p>\n<p>Media self-regulation is particularly significant because it seeks to encourage journalists and media organisations to take responsibility for their professional conduct rather than relying exclusively on government regulation.<\/p>\n<p>For South Sudan&#8217;s media sector, stakeholders say stronger professional accountability could help improve public trust while protecting the principles of press freedom and responsible journalism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sabri Dibaco The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) is hosting a national consultative workshop in Juba to discuss media self-regulation, ethical journalism, and professional accountability in the country.
