President Salva Kiir Mayardit has held talks with Minister of Peacebuilding and Interim Chairman of the SPLM-IO, Ambassador Stephen Par Kuol, on key national issues as South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n

The meeting, held on Friday, focused on the country\u2019s peace process, the ongoing Inter-Party Dialogue, and efforts to maintain unity within the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU).<\/p>\n

According to the information released by the presidential press unit, the two leaders also discussed the need to strengthen coordination among government institutions and harmonise government structures across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting also considered the importance of maintaining cooperation and harmony within the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity as the country moves toward the elections and the next phase of the political transition,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

The talks come at a critical time as South Sudan approaches the end of its transitional period and prepares to conduct general elections in December.<\/p>\n

The government has continued to engage political parties and other stakeholders in efforts to build consensus around the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement and preparations for the elections.<\/p>\n

The Inter-Party Dialogue remains one of the platforms through which political parties and stakeholders are expected to discuss national concerns, strengthen political cooperation, and promote a peaceful transition.<\/p>\n

The discussions between President Kiir and Ambassador Par also highlighted the importance of institutional coordination as the country prepares to move from the transitional period to an elected government.<\/p>\n

The government has said that continued consultation among political leaders is necessary to address political and institutional challenges and ensure that the peace process remains on track.<\/p>\n

The engagement between Kiir and Par reflects ongoing consultations within the unity government over the political priorities facing the country ahead of the December elections.<\/p>\n

With the elections approaching, political stability, implementation of the peace agreement, and cooperation among the parties remain central to efforts to ensure a peaceful transition.<\/p>\n
