A 26-year-old boda boda rider has been shot dead by suspected gunmen in Khor William, Juba, in an incident that occurred at around 10 p.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n

The incident reportedly happened near Murle Church, a short distance from Jebel Market, commonly known as Jebel Suk.<\/p>\n

According to a female passenger who survived the attack, the rider was carrying her when they were stopped by three armed men dressed in military uniforms.<\/p>\n

The passenger said the gunmen shot the rider before taking his motorcycle and fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey shot this young man on a bike. He fell, and they took the bike and ran away,\u201d the survivor said.<\/p>\n

The passenger escaped the attack without sustaining injuries.<\/p>\n

A resident expressed concern over the incident, saying security personnel are normally seen patrolling the area at night.<\/p>\n

“The government patrolling team or soldiers used to be around that area at night. It was a surprise witnessing this incident here,\u201d the resident said.<\/p>\n

Another resident called on the authorities to strengthen security in Khor William and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need to increase the protection at Khor William and areas around it. The criminals in this area are becoming many, and therefore the government needs to address this matter immediately,\u201d the resident said.<\/p>\n

Cases of insecurity involving armed men and motorcycle theft have raised concerns among residents and boda boda operators in parts of Juba. Residents say stronger night patrols are needed to protect people travelling on motorcycles and other road users, particularly in areas where security incidents have previously been reported.<\/p>\n

The identity of the deceased rider and the motive behind the attack had not been established at the time of publication.<\/p>\n

Voice News made efforts to reach government officials and security authorities responsible for the Khor William area for comment on the incident and to establish whether any suspects had been arrested. However, those efforts were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
