I just came from there now, and I am now in Abyei Town, where we are assembling as the situation normalises and still monitoring it,\u201d the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about possible casualties, the officer said some people had sustained serious injuries but could not provide specific figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are those with fatal injuries, and they are being rushed to the hospital, and I can\u2019t give the figures as I am speaking with you. As I told you, I am not an official source to detail everything. Just take it from me that the fighting happened and the situation is fluid,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The officer added that movement between the two sides had been restricted as security personnel monitored the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, attempts to obtain an official account from the Abyei Administrative Area authorities were ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Yohanes Akol, the Minister of Information in the Abyei Administrative Area Administration, confirmed that fighting had occurred but said officials were still gathering information before issuing an official statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fighting has occurred, and later in the day, after the details are gathered, we shall issue the statement. So, whichever house you are coming from to seek information will be served with information,\u201d Minister Akol said.<\/p>\n<p>The precise cause of the fighting remains unclear.
