A high-level peace delegation from the Eastern Equatoria State government has called for strengthened grassroots peacebuilding, economic cooperation, and peaceful sharing of natural resources among communities across the state.<\/p>\n

The delegation, led by Kapoeta North County Commissioner David Nayee Lomor, made the call during a visit to Ohutok Payam in Imehejek Administrative Area, where it was hosted by the Chief Administrator, Mathew Oromo Morris.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Lomor delivered key directives from Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, focusing on measures aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening socio-economic resilience among communities.<\/p>\n

He said peacebuilding should begin at the household level and extend to neighbouring payams, bomas, counties, and pastoral settlements.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeaceful engagement must originate within individual households and extend outward to neighbouring payams, bomas, counties, and pastoral settlements,\u201d Lomor said.<\/p>\n

The commissioner also emphasised the importance of economic diversification, arguing that security is essential for communities to engage in productive economic activities.<\/p>\n

He encouraged citizens to explore alternative livelihoods, including artisanal mining in mineral-rich areas, particularly as communities face prolonged dry conditions and declining agricultural productivity.<\/p>\n

Lomor further stressed the need for peaceful sharing of resources among pastoral communities in response to changing rainfall patterns and the prolonged dry spell affecting parts of Eastern Equatoria.<\/p>\n

Representatives from different communities and administrative areas expressed support for the peace initiative.<\/p>\n

A representative of Toposa pastoralists reaffirmed commitment to joint grazing arrangements, saying regional stability is essential for communities whose livelihoods depend heavily on livestock.<\/p>\n

The Kidepo Valley Administrative Area representative condemned livestock raiding and violent attacks, urging pastoralist communities to reject criminal activities and resolve disputes through peaceful means.<\/p>\n

The Torit County representative called on youth, elders, and women leaders to support the peace efforts, identifying cattle theft and illegal livestock movement as major causes of intercommunal tensions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Imehejek Chief Administrator Mathew Oromo Morris declared a zero-tolerance position against violations of peace.<\/p>\n

He warned that individuals involved in cross-border raids and other acts of lawlessness would face prosecution in accordance with state law.<\/p>\n

The Ohutok Payam representative welcomed the mediation efforts but raised concerns over persistent child abductions, shortages of essential medical supplies at the Ohutok Primary Health Care Centre, and teacher absenteeism linked to delayed civil servant salaries.<\/p>\n

Torit Municipal Council Mayor Hon. Eddy William Ponsiano pledged to brief Governor Lobong on urgent infrastructure needs, particularly the rehabilitation of the Ohutok\u2013Imehejek highway to improve security response and facilitate regional trade.<\/p>\n

The delegation reaffirmed that non-violence, judicial accountability, and socio-economic cooperation are central to achieving lasting peace and stability in Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n
